Chinese-inspired flavours with a crispy tempura batter coating. A delicious side dish or meal served with rice and sautéd veggies.
INGREDIENTS
- 450g chicken thigh cut into chunks
- Sliced nori sheets
- 1 cup Tasty Tempura Batter
- 1 cup iced water
Marinade: - 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp Chinese cooking wine
- 1 tsp 5-spice powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground white pepper
Spice mix: - ⅛ tsp white pepper
- ¼ tsp brown sugar
- ⅛ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp 5-spice powder
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cover chicken with marinade ingredients and leave for at least 30min before cooking.
- Heat the oil in the pan.
- Add a few ice cubes to 1 cup of water and let it stand for a few minutes. Remove the ice cubes and add the ice cold water to the tempura mix and combine until smooth .
- Dip the chicken pieces into the tempura batter mix and lower into the hot oil.
- Fry for about 7 minutes .
- Transfer to drain on a wire rack .
- Repeat with the remaining chicken .
- Sprinkle the spice mix and sliced nori strips on top of the chicken to serve. Enjoy!
